Cracked heels

The truth is that sandals and all hard and bare shoes accelerate the dehydration of the foot and consequently the dry cracked heels.

Some moisturizers contain skin-softening agents, such as urea (example Algofeel [reviews]), salicylic acid or alpha hydroxy acid, which may help remove dead skin. They may cause slight stinging or irritation.

Soak your feet for about 10 minutes in plain or soapy water and pat dry. Then gently rub your heels with a loofah or foot scrubber to help remove dead skin. Apply a heavier, oil-based cream or petroleum jelly (Vaseline, Aquaphor Healing Ointment, others), then slip on a pair of thin cotton socks at bedtime to help the moisturizer work.

The correct rub is in one direction and not up and down. If you rub up and down at the same time, you can injure your heels.

Socks absorb shocks, the foot does not dehydrate and always remains soft. If you generally don't wear closed shoes during the day at least when you get home, apply foot cream (Vaseline) and put socks on top.
